Emily Keener at Awards Ceremony

As many of you *may* have noticed, I have not updated this site for almost a year. Sorry about that…

About a year ago I took on another job, although I didn’t realize that my new responsibility was going to be so time consuming.

Last year, my daughter developed a passion for guitar and songwriting. Turns out that she’s pretty darn good. I have spent the last year being her sounding board, recording engineer, chauffeur, web site and graphic designer and all around manager.

Recently, she won a songwriting contest put on by Janine Turner’s Constituting America and we got to spend 5 days in Philadelphia filming a music video and a documentary and performed on the stage at the National Constitution Center.

And… she gets to be the Huckabee show on FoxNews this Saturday, October 15th to perform her song with Governor Huckabee and the Little Rockers.

You can check out her winning song at the Constituting America website, or see some of her other stuff at www.emilykeener.com

I wish I could tell you what the plans are for this site, but I just don’t know. The Facebook branch of Stand Like A Rock is still faithfully posting articles of importance and I’m hoping to be able to teach her how to update the website as well.

In the meantime, check out the Facebook page for Stand Like A Rock.

American Thinker ~ Michael Geer

The Vatican has called for Israel to end its occupation of “Arab lands,” noting that all of what we define currently as Israel is “Arab land.”

That the Bible must not be used to justify either their ‘occupation’ nor their ‘injustices’ against Palestinians.

“The Holy Scriptures cannot be used to justify the return of Jews to Israel and the displacement of the Palestinians, to justify the occupation by Israel of Palestinian lands,” Monsignor Cyril Salim Bustros, Greek Melkite archbishop of Our Lady of the Annunciation in Boston, Massachusetts, and president of the “Commission for the Message,” said at Saturday’s Vatican press conference.

“We Christians cannot speak of the ‘promised land’ as an exclusive right for a privileged Jewish people. This promise was nullified by Christ. There is no longer a chosen people – all men and women of all countries have become the chosen people.”

You’ve just been witness to a significant event in the End Times unfolding, amigo. The Vatican stating that Israel is “no longer a chosen people”.

The Vatican has just nullified the Bible, and elevated Replacement Theology in full public view.

This is …. stunning.

The Odyssey of Islamism in America ~ American Thinker
Islamism is a mutation of Islam and is rapidly advancing on two fronts. In every Islamic country, it is cowing the non-radicals while recruiting more and more radicals into its ranks. In non-Muslim lands, flush with petrodollars, Islamism is establishing itself as a formidable force by enlisting the disaffected and attracting the delusional liberals with its promises. For the faithful, there is the added incentive of Allah’s heaven and its irresistible attractions.

It’s Not the Economy, Stupid ~ Andrew C. McCarthy
With debt exploding, joblessness climbing, growth stagnating, and sharp tax increases looming, the economy has dominated the midterm campaign that finally ends on Tuesday. National-security concerns have flown under the radar.

All Quiet on the Black-Ops Front ~ Jonah Goldberg
I’d like to ask a simple question: Why isn’t Julian Assange dead?
In case you didn’t know, Assange is the Australian computer programmer behind WikiLeaks, a massive — and massively successful — effort to disclose secret or classified information. In a series of recent dumps, he unveiled thousands upon thousands of classified documents from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Military and other government officials insist that WikiLeaks is doing serious damage to American national security and is going to get people killed, including brave Iraqis and Afghans who’ve risked their lives and the lives of their families to help us.

Frances Fox Piven: Obama Has Done Good things “Under the Radar” ~ New Zeal
“The Obama Administration has done some good things compared to the administrations that we’ve had for a very long time.”

A divisive Obama undercuts the presidency ~ Washington Post
President Obama’s post-partisan America has disappeared, replaced by the politics of polarization, resentment and division. In a Univision interview on Monday, the president, who campaigned in 2008 by referring not to a “Red America” or a “Blue America” but a United States of America, urged Hispanic listeners to vote in this spirit: “We’re gonna punish our enemies and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us.” Recently, Obama suggested that if Republicans gain control of the House and/or Senate as forecast, he expects not reconciliation and unity but “hand-to-hand combat”

Cargo plane bomb plot: Key developments ~ Telegraph (UK)
Two explosive packages on cargo planes from Yemen were addressed to Jewish synagogues in Chicago in a “credible terrorist threat” against the US, Barack Obama said. Here is a timeline of key developments.

Comrade Hitler: Man of the Left ~ Jonah Goldberg
Norman Stone reviews Thomas Weber’s Hitler’s First War. It sounds like an amazing piece of scholarship. How is it possible that there’s any new archival material to discover about Hitler? I’ve already ordered the book from Amazon. But this tidbit bears highlighting now: Mr. Weber has discovered that, briefly at the turn of 1918-19, and unmentioned in “Mein Kampf,” Hitler wore a red brassard and supported the short-lived Bavarian Soviet Republic.

Radical in the White House ~ National Review Online
Stanley Kurtz hit an Organizing for America nerve during Barack Obama’s campaign for president. Stanley, a Harvard-educated social anthropologist, is a senior fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center and has written for National Review and National Review Online for over a decade. When he started not only asking questions but digging into Barack Obama’s academic and activist past, the campaign tried to shut him down — literally, organizing a phone slamdown on Chicago radio. Well, this still is America.

The Morning After ~ Cal Thomas ~ Townhall.com
The great “what-if” looks like it is about to happen. With all of the media attention focused on Tuesday’s midterm election, Republicans are faced with a greater task than winning a majority in the House of Representatives or getting at least close enough to a majority that they will be able to halt or slow the Obama agenda.

A Clear and Present Threat ~ Townhall.com
A new Gallup poll shows that forty-six percent of Americans believe the federal government “poses an immediate threat to the rights and freedoms of ordinary citizens.”

Faith Without Reason ~ American Spectator
Robert R. Reilly has written a book that may offer the key to both understanding and perhaps defeating the ongoing war of terror against the West. The book is entitled The Closing of the Muslim Mind: How Intellectual Suicide Created the Modern Islamist Crisis. As Angelo Codevilla’s jacket blurb puts it: “Reilly shows what happens to a civilization when it fails to give reason its due. This book teaches and warns. Read it.” Paul Eidelberg describes it as “a book surpassing in depth even the best efforts of Bernard Lewis. You will not only be enlightened, but you may also see how the West might prevent a new Dark Ages.”

Another Debate Audience Recites Pledge When Another Moderator Says ‘No ~ Big Government.com
For the second time in less than a week a congressional debate began with a request for the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, and for the second time in a week the League of Woman’s Voters moderator said no, and for the second time in a week the audience got up and said it anyway. One would think that with all of the bad publicity after last week’s incident, the League would have “gotten it.” But Tuesday night the League of Woman Voters proved that they aren’t too “quick on the uptake.”

Electromagnetic pulse impact far and wide ~ USA Today
There is talk of catastrophe ahead, depending on whom you believe, because of the threat of an electromagnetic pulse triggered by either a supersized solar storm or terrorist A-bomb, both capable of disabling the electric grid that powers modern life.

An Open Letter to Rush Limbaugh And His Listeners ~ Hillbuzz.org
Dear Rush, It’s my great hope that some of your listeners find a way to get this letter to you, or that it makes it to “Snerdley” and finds its way into your hands. I don’t think even you understand just how much damage Obama has done to the Democrat Party — to the point where formerly lifelong Democrats like myself, and everyone here at HillBuzz.org, are actively working to expose the party and literally burn it to the ground for the good of the country.

65% Favor Getting Rid of Entire Congress and Starting Over ~ Rasmussen
Let’s face it: Most Americans don’t have much use for either of the major political parties and think it would be better to dump the entire Congress on Election Day. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 65% of Likely U.S. Voters say if they had the option next week, they would vote to get rid of the entire Congress and start all over again.

Barack Obama’s dumb ‘Daily Show’ Jon Stewart appearance and the President’s diminishing brand ~ NY Daily News
President Obama should make the most of his “Daily Show” appearance on Wednesday night – charming the pants off Jon Stewart and the crowd, as he did when he showed up there two years ago. It’s a terrific show, Stewart is a great interviewer and Obama makes good television.

As Russian troops prepare to return to Afghanistan in landmark agreement, Gorbachev warns Nato victory is impossible ~ Daily Mail (UK)
Moscow has agreed to help train the Afghan army and anti-narcotics troops – at the request of the same Western countries who helped remove Russia from the country in the late 1980s.
But Mikhail Gorbachev today warned Nato that victory in Afghanistan is ‘impossible’.
The former leader of the Soviet Union, who pulled Russian troops out of Afghanistan in 1989, said President Barack Obama is right to start withdrawing U.S. forces from the country next year.

Fed Gears Up for Stimulus ~ Wall Street Journal
The Federal Reserve is close to embarking on another round of monetary stimulus next week, against the backdrop of a weak economy and low inflation—and despite doubts about the wisdom and efficacy of the policy among economists and some of the Fed’s own decision makers.

NPR CEO Vivian Schiller Key Architect of FCC Govt Takeover of the News ~ Townhall.com
Last week, National Public Radio CEO Vivian Schiller took a break from her crusade for a government takeover of the media to swat a fly. With now-former NPR analyst Juan Williams suitably splattered across the evening news after politically incorrect comments he made on Fox News, Schiller can return to her real passion – the creation of a national network to ensure that in the future, you get your news from the government in general and NPR in particular.

Vivian Schiller and the Party Line at NPR ~ American Thinker
The Juan Williams/NPR flap isn’t going away — and shouldn’t. Basically, Williams was fired for not toeing the party line at NPR. A number of observers, including Williams himself, are protesting the hypocrisy of NPR not dismissing the likes of Nina Totenberg for wishing AIDS upon the family of the late Jesse Helms. Of course, that’s no surprise. Totenberg’s hate speech doesn’t qualify as hate speech in the liberal lexicon. Totenberg toes the party line at NPR. She’s a good apparatchik, safe among the party hierarchy.

The Curse of the Welfare State ~ American Thinker
It is Europe’s autumn of discontent. All across the continent, people are taking to the streets to protest the austerity measures of their governments. The governments have to cut for a simple reason: They are broke. They no longer have the money to sponsor the kind of padded lifestyles to which their citizens have grown accustomed. This in turn makes the citizens angry — so much so that they are willing to turn their countries upside-down in order to obtain benefits their governments simply cannot provide.

The Left’s War on the Economy ~ Canada Free Press
Obama may be losing the War on Terror, but his War on the Economy is headed full speed ahead. The joblessness, the unemployment rolls and an economic in which the only people still making money are in the government, in public sector unions or on Wall Street is no accident. It was the intended result all along. What Obama and the Democrats miscalculated is the mobilization of populist opposition and the speed with which the public turned to the Republicans for solutions, instead of treating Obama as the Great Savior for extending their unemployment benefits.

WikiLeaks’ Selective Morality ~ National Review Online Victor Davis Hanson
Despite its claims of uncovering bad behavior by governments around the world, WikiLeaks chiefly targets the U.S. military.
There has never been anything quite like WikiLeaks in American military history. We are engaged in a great experiment to see whether the U.S. military can still persist in a conflict when it knows that any and all of its private communications can become public — and will be selectively aired and hyped by people with a preconceived bias against it.

Must-See Weather Underground Documentary (VIDEO)
The entire 2002 documentary entitled “The Weather Underground” is now available to watch for free on YouTube. In the below excellently produced documentary, former members of the Weather Underground reflect candidly about the idealistic passion that drove them to “bring the war home”. In it they paint a compelling portrait of troubled and revolutionary times, with unexpected and often striking connections to the current world situation. ~ New Zeal

“Marxism in America” by Lt. Gen. (Ret.) W.G. Boykin ~ New Zeal (VIDEO)
Lt. Gen. (Ret.) W.G. Boykin gives an excellent, point-by-point discussion of his background and training in understanding Marxist insurgencies and how this parallels current government actions.

The Urban Origins of Liberty ~ The Freeman
In The Road to Serfdom, F. A. Hayek tells us that intellectuals and governments in the twentieth century tragically abandoned the road to liberty in pursuit of collectivist utopias. That road stretched at least as far back as the democratic polis of ancient Greece, but it was not always straight and unbroken. Once, it was completely lost, only to be rediscovered centuries later.

60 Minutes Shock Report: National Unemployed and Underemployed 17.5%; California 22% ~ BigGovernment.com
In a report sure to cause consternation at the White House and in the offices of the Democratic Leadership in Congress, “60 Minutes” provided an in-depth report on the realities of the unemployment situation in America today. (Snip for video) When you take into account the underemployed as well as the unemployed, the national rate hits 17% and California a staggering 22%. To put a face on the realities of the underemployed in America under Obamanomincs, reporter Scott Pelley spoke with a fiber-optics engineering manager who has been looking for work for over a year.

Why the US has turned against Obama ~ Michael Barone, Telegraph (UK)
Why have American voters gone so sour on Barack Obama’s Democratic party? It’s a question that must puzzle many in Britain who – Conservative as well as Labour and Lib Dem – welcomed Obama’s election two years ago and saw him leading America and the world into broad, sunlit uplands. But now it appears that Obama’s party is about to take what George W Bush called a “thumping” in the mid-term elections on November 2. It looks to be quite a fall. Obama won the popular vote in 2008 by a 53 to 46 per cent margin.

Iranian Hegemony, American Timidity ~ Canada Free Press
Remember George W. Bush’s “Axis of Evil”? Iran, Iraq, and North Korea. Bush identified these three during a January 29, 2002 State of the Union speech. On March 20, 2003, the U.S. and coalition forces invaded Iraq in “Operation Iraqi Freedom.” We were assured that weapons of mass destruction would be found and, for the most part, few were.

Adrift in Arabia ~ Middle East Forum
Transforming America’s relations with the Islamic world has been perhaps the foremost foreign policy issue through which President Obama has sought to set himself apart from his immediate predecessor. Having long downplayed his Muslim roots—going so far as to disguise not only his middle name, Hussein, but also to substitute Barack with the less conspicuous Barry early on in his career[1]—Obama has embraced them since taking office. As he explained in his much-ballyhooed June 2009 address to the Muslim World in Cairo:

Home sales data: lipstick on a pig ~ MSNBC
The upturn – which still leaves home sales at levels 19 percent lower than a year ago – represents a snapback after a steep plunge this summer. After the government’s temporary tax credit for first time home buyers expired in June, existing home sales fell to the lowest level in 16 years.

Debt Has Increased $5 Trillion Since Speaker Pelosi Vowed, ‘No New Deficit Spending’ ~ CNSNews
When Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) gave her inaugural address as speaker of the House in 2007, she vowed there would be “no new deficit spending.” Since that day, the national debt has increased by $5 trillion, according to the U.S. Treasury Department.

Obama panel mulls end to mortgage interest, child tax deductions ~ Wall Street Journal
Sacrosanct tax breaks, including deductions on mortgage interest, remain on the table just weeks before the deficit commission issues recommendations on policies to pare back with the aim of balancing the budget by 2015.

Dollar at Risk of Becoming ‘Toxic Waste’: Charts ~ CNBC
“If the (dollar index) takes out the low that was made roughly a year ago I really think that will not only encourage more sales, it will cause a little bit of minor panic,” Griffiths said. “A year ago it was deemed too cheap, if it goes any lower than that it’s actually become toxic waste.”

Progressive Feudalism ~ By Thomas Lifson (American Thinker)
The changes wrought on the American political economy by progressives have taken us in the unmistakable direction of feudalism. The morphological resemblance between the progressive version of America and the historic feudal regimes of Western Europe and Japan is obvious if one takes a few moments to consider the changes in the proper context.

The Forgotten Evil behind the Iron Curtain ~ American Thinker
An entire American generation has come of age since the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the Soviet empire in Eastern Europe. The new threat is Islamic radicalism, and only North Korea, a nation that has developed a nuclear weapons program and missile delivery systems, which it sells to other rogue regimes, gets much attention as a holdover of the “second world” — the Communist nations that were for 45 years our enemy in the Cold War

“No Che Day” ~ Canada Free Press
Last year The U.K. Guardian interviewed Oscar-winning actor Benicio del Toro regarding his Cannes-winning his role as Che Guevara in Stephen Soderbergh’s movie “Che.” “Dammit This Guy Is Cool!” was the interview title. “I hear of this guy, and he’s got a cool name, Che Guevara!” says del Toro. “Groovy name, groovy man, groovy politics! So I came across a picture of Che, smiling, in fatigues, I thought, ‘Dammit, this guy is cool-looking!’”

The British Try to Climb Out of the Ditch ~ Mona Charen
When a society has become as socialized as Great Britain, it becomes difficult to say where the public sector leaves off and the private sector begins. Take the arts. We squabble about public funding for the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities. And certainly there is a good libertarian case to be made that these are not the proper province of government at all, and certainly not of the federal government. But in any case, government subventions amount to only about 10 percent of total arts funding in the U.S.

The House That Uncle Sam Built ~ The Freeman
The Great Recession (or the Great Hangover) that began in 2008 did not have to happen. Its causes and consequences are not mysterious. Indeed, this particular and very painful episode affirms what the best nonpartisan economists have tried to tell our politicians and policy-makers for decades, namely, that the more they try to inflate and direct the economy, the more damage the rest of us will suffer sooner or later. Hindsight is always 20-20, but in this instance, good old-fashioned common sense would have provided all the foresight needed to avoid the mess we’re in.
